Epoxies for PVC

This thermoplastic material is known for its hardness, tensile/compressive strength, chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, solvents, oils, weatherability, electrical insulation, and vapor barrier characteristics. Rigid PVC is also durable, versatile, easy to process, machinable, difficult to ignite, self-extinguishing, UV stable, lightweight, withstands wear, tear, abrasion, corrosion etc. Available in a wide range of colors, this long-lasting material is frequently selected by engineers for numerous applications in the following industries:

  • Appliance
  • Automotive
  • Electrical
  • Marine
  • Telecommunication
  • Packaging
  • Medical
  • Optical

Specific examples include:

  • Refrigeration components
  • Semiconductor processing equipment
  • Lab equipment
  • Piping
  • Electricity distribution boxes
  • Plug housings
  • Battery terminals
  • Switches

Master Bond’s adhesive products are used to bond rigid PVC to rigid PVC and other substrates. To ensure maximum adhesion, proper surface preparation and cleaning are essential.

Considerations for Adhesive Bonding Rigid PVC

Typical Master Bond adhesive formulations for bonding rigid PVC are EP21ND, EP31, EP21TDCHT, EP41S-5, and EP30HT. These easy to use/apply systems cure at room temperature or more rapidly upon exposure to heat. EP21ND is a non-drip paste with a non-critical one to one mix ratio by weight or volume. It exhibits high strength durable bonds and has excellent dimensional stability. Low viscosity EP31 has high lap shear and peel strength. It has a shore D hardness is 70-80. User friendly EP21TDCHT can withstand harsh thermal cycling, vibration, and shock. It is a superior electrical insulator. EP30HT is a structural, rigid curing, optically clear adhesive system which can be used for indirect food contact per the 175.105 FDA specifications. The refractive index of this product is 1.54. EP41S-5 offers outstanding chemical resistance properties including acids, bases, and solvents. It is black in color.
