Conformal Coatings for Electronic Assemblies

They exhibit high elongation with exceptional peel and tear strength properties.

End users evaluate the feasibility of using a particular Master Bond impact resistant coating by conducting falling-weight tests. Key fracture characteristics are determined by dropping a certain sized weight vertically from different heights. This procedure is critical for identifying the most suitable coatings and predicting the useful life of the part/component.

Master Bond impact resistant coatings can be applied by brush, trowel, roller, and sprayer. Depending on their rheological behavior, they can be dispensed on diverse configurations. It is important to note that the effectiveness of the coating is contingent on the many other conditions it will experience in service. Proper surface preparation, applying the correct coating thickness, accurate mixing, and curing for the required length of time at the specified temperature will prevent degradation and premature coating failure.

Epoxy impact resistant formulations need to possess good wetting properties, low shrinkage upon cure, and superior dimensional stability. Often modifying agents including elastomers, tougheners, and mineral fillers are incorporated into the compound in order to enhance their capability. Fast setting room temperature or low temperature compositions have been developed to speed productivity. These tenacious products improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime.

Theoretical coverage for a 1 mil (0.001 inches) film thickness coating is approximately 1,600 square feet, for solvent free compositions. This coverage in an actual application will vary depending on the eventual coating thickness as well as wastage.
